The A82 corridor threads through Glencoe's Three Sisters and skirts the western shore of Loch Ness, linking Fort William and Inverness. Small-group transport has replaced the drovers' herds, and private Edinburgh Highlands private tour departures now leave the capital daily, covering between 240 and 320 kilometres in a single circuit depending on the itinerary. Highland cattle, with their long russet coats and wide horns, graze roadside pastures and have become emblematic of the region's agricultural heritage, though the breed was formalised only in the Victorian era through selective crossbreeding of older island and mainland stock.
